- 12Supports modified
- 3Studies in one package
- 0Major replacements
The challenge
An upgrade to the gas turbines would change steam conditions and electrical loads. The owner needed independent confirmation that existing piping, structures and the electrical system could accept the new operating case.
Our scope
- CAESAR II stress analysis of high-energy piping
- Nozzle load checks against equipment limits
- Structural assessment of pipe racks and supports
- Load flow, short circuit and protection studies
Our approach
Our stress engineers re-analysed the main steam and feedwater systems at the new conditions, while structural and electrical engineers assessed the supporting systems. Findings were combined into one prioritised list of modifications.
- Code checks to ASME B31.1
- Relay coordination review in ETAP
- Targeted strengthening designs where needed
The outcome
The studies confirmed the upgrade could proceed with a small number of support modifications and relay setting changes, avoiding a much larger replacement programme.
Scope of work
- Piping stress
- Nozzle load checks
- Structural assessment
- Power system studies
