- Class 5AACE estimate
- 10 weeksStudy duration
The challenge
The developer needed to choose between alkaline and PEM electrolysers and two candidate sites before committing to FEED. Each option had different power, water and storage implications.
Our scope
- Technology screening of alkaline vs PEM electrolysis
- Concept block flow diagrams and mass balances
- Plot plans for two candidate sites
- Concept HAZID
- AACE Class 5 CAPEX and OPEX estimates
Our approach
We developed every option to the same level of definition so the comparison was fair. Electrical, water treatment and storage were costed alongside the electrolysers, because balance-of-plant often decides the business case.
- Levelised cost of hydrogen for each option
- Water demand and treatment concept
- Layout safety and separation distance review
The outcome
The study gave the developer a clear recommendation on technology and site, a defined FEED scope and a risk register to carry into the next phase.
