- 0Field rework on spools

The challenge
The operator needed to tie a new well into an ageing wellhead platform whose as-built drawings were incomplete. Offshore bed space was limited, and every return trip for measurements would have added cost and schedule risk.
Our scope
- Laser scan registration and clean-up
- Intelligent as-built 3D model of the affected decks
- Tie-in piping, supports and structural modifications
- Stress analysis and IFC isometrics
Our approach
We registered more than 400 scan positions into a single point cloud and modelled the affected decks as intelligent, spec-driven objects. New piping was designed directly against the cloud so clashes with existing steel, cable trays and valves were found in the office rather than offshore.
- Model-to-cloud deviation checks within ±10 mm
- Clash reviews with the operator's offshore team
- Pre-fabrication spool design to minimise hot work
The outcome
The tie-in spools were fabricated onshore and installed in a single campaign with no field rework. The as-built model is now the operator's reference for future modifications on the platform.
Scope of work
- Point cloud modelling
- Piping design
- Stress analysis
- Structural modifications
- IFC isometrics
